Biography

Portrait of Sungwook Kim

Sungwook Kim is a conductor working in Germany, with a focus on opera and orchestral music. In July 2026, he conducted public concerts with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker and the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen. Forthcoming engagements include a public concert with the Bodensee Philharmonie Konstanz on 12 November 2026 and the premiere of Rossini’s L’occasione fa il ladro in Stuttgart on 30 January 2027. He made his conducting debut with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester during the 2024 Dirigierwoche with Michael Sanderling, part of the Assistant Conductor selection process. Alongside his conducting, he works as a répétiteur at Theater Altenburg-Gera and has been reinvited annually to Goethe-Theater Bad Lauchstädt since 2023. He studies orchestral conducting with Rasmus Baumann at HMDK Stuttgart, following his degree with Matthias Foremny at HMT Leipzig.
